Shield of Faith

…above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. Ephesians 6:16 NKJV

So far we have talked about pieces of armor God uses to guard us. The belt of truth is all about God’s truth, the only truth we should surround our self with. The breastplate of righteousness is the remembrance of Christ’s righteousness covering us. The preparation of the gospel of peace is all about our testimony of how God saved us.

But this piece of armor, the shield of faith, was designed specifically for our use. This one is activated when we choose to use it. The shield of faith can protect us from a host of evil intentions. The problem is we sometimes forget to raise it up. Try imagining yourself carrying a shield around. The moment temptation comes, raise the shield of faith and watch the firey arrows of temptation fizzle out when they hit your shield. Persecution comes in the form of insults and slander, raise the shield of faith and watch them bounce off and land on the ground instead of penetrating your heart.

Go back and read today’s verse again. Maybe write it down. Circle the words “you”, “able to quench” and “all”. With the shield of faith you are empowered to extinguish all the enemy’s firey arrows. Not just some of his attacks, but all of his attempts can be foiled through the use of this piece of armor.

Next time your tempted, stressed, worried, angry, bitter, resentful, self-centered, or thinking bad thoughts, what are you going to do? Raise your shield of faith and snuff out the enemies attack!

Lord thank you for the shield of faith so we may participate in the battle confidently. Help us to remember to use it every time without fail. In Jesus’ name we pray Amen.
