Love is Not Boastful

on November 3, 2008

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.  It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 NLT

As if being patient, kind and not jealous was not hard enough, the list continues.  Love is not boastful.  Now let’s stop and think about this.  Are you boastful?  Do you always have to share your story with others?  When you enter into conversations with others are you first to say what’s going on in your life?

Love listens to others.  If we are always talking, when do we listen?  Start by listening to your own words.  If everything out of your mouth is revolving around you, then you might have a boasting problem.

Psalm 10:3 NKJV says “For the wicked boasts of his heart’s desire”.

Psalm 34:2 NKJV says “My soul shall make its boast in the LORD;The humble shall hear of it and be glad.”

Why, even Paul said this about boasting in Galatians 6:14 NKJV “But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.”

Self check:  What’s coming out of my mouth?

If we’re going to boast, then let’s boast about Jesus!

  1. Amen to that! What comes out of our mouths should not be boasting about ourselves, but I like what you said about boasting about Jesus! I just finished a poem this morning about how what you say affects others.

    • Jeremiah says:

Love is not boastful . . .that means even in the Christian faith it isnt boastful. That means we are not trying to strive to be loving it means that when God is in our hearts and Christ’s sacrifice is in our thoughts love will naturally come out that way. Boasting in any form shows pride and fear; enc about God. When I do this I must ask myself just what part of my walk with God is hindereds and what can I do to reconcile with God . . . . not of this world.

  3. I seldom comment, however i did some searching and wound up here Love is Not
Boastful | Bible Devotions. And I actually do have a few
questions for you if you usually do not mind.
Could it be just me or does it look like some of the comments come across like they
are written by brain dead individuals? :-P And, if you are posting on additional online social sites, I’d like to keep up with everything fresh you have to post. Could you list of all of all your shared pages like your twitter feed, Facebook page or linkedin profile?
