How to Turn Scripture into Answered Prayer

on February 8, 2012

The Bible tells us when we pray according to God’s will, we know He hears us. If we know He hears us, we can be confident He will answer us.

How do we know if our prayer is aligned with God’s will?

The bible is filled with God’s words. What God says in His word is true, pure, and right. Therefore, if we use God’s words in our prayers we can be assured God hears us. But do we just read God’s words back to God like a prayer? Perhaps we do. Then again I have found it helpful to follow the prompting of the Spirit.

As I read a Scripture sometimes a name comes to my mind.  I take the name as an indication the verse if just read is meant for that person.  For example read “A faithful witness does not lie, but a false witness will utter lies.” (Proverbs 14:15) Let’s say Joan’s name came to mind.  I would then turn this Scripture into a prayer for Joan that sounds like this: “Lord thank you for being a faithful witness that does not lie. May Joan turn away from lies and become a faithful witness that does not lie. In Jesus’ name Amen.”

Try it the next time you read the Bible.  Turn your reading into to prayer.
